The Direct Fire Ignition (DFI) module is a component in a vehicle's engine that controls the coils and enables a spark to be produced at the correct time in each cylinder.

If the DFI modules fails, the car will correctly fire for a short distance or not at all, and then will stall for no apparent reason, when a load is put on the engine. After a short period the engine will restart and run for a while longer. These symptoms can have other causes, but the DFI module is often the first thing to check.
