Valve spring retainers are an important part of the valve train, they go on the end of your valve stems, where they hold your valve springs against the cylinder head and hold the whole shooting match together. Increasing horsepower and RPM range means more spring pressure and more punishment. Upgrading to stronger retainers to handle the increased horsepower is the way to go.
